The clouds have parted…

I got a wonderful phone call last night. It appears that my recent blood work and PET scan have confirmed that this cancer is confined to my breast and has not metastasized to any other part of my body. That was the BEST thing I have heard in a long time!!! I am so grateful to have caught this early! Surgery has been scheduled for this coming Tuesday. I feel I am as ready as can possibly be.

I know many of you will be eager to connect post-surgery to see how things went. I will ask Joey to post an update on my behalf the night of or the day after surgery. To all my friends and family, I’d like to thank you in advance for all your prayers and offers of support, and I would also like to ask that you let us be the ones to reach out. It will be important to have the space and quiet to transition home and create a nice healing bubble in our house. We know to reach out if we need help and we are so grateful for all the offers of support. If I can hug you with my words, this is it…. Ungggh! (One big squeeze from me.)

As I am so prayed for and watched over, so are you. Love is everywhere.

  1. I have read every post – some many times – and always come away speechless. Your grasp of this terrible disease and how it affects every aspect of your life amazes me. Wayland and I have known way too many people that have had to learn to incorporate this “change” into their lives – including ourselves – and I must say you are an inspiration. Your ability to express the turmoil and emotions of being slammed into a damn wall of pain is exceptional. Many of us find it difficult to verbalize how we feel, what we need, when we need it, etc, but you do it so gracefully and lovingly. I just want you to know that your Minnesota family loves you very much and are sending you healing energy. So with that said…peace and blessings to you, Joey, and Julian.
    Much love,
    Barbara

    1. Thank you Barb and Poppa. We feel your love from afar. Our initial conversations about this seem so long ago and even though I was hurting and sometimes left uncomfortable silences, you were both so strong and reassuring. I count you among my angels standing vigil. Love you too!

  2. So glad to hear such excellent news, Melissa.
Wishing you a smooth procedure on Tuesday and a rapid recovery. May your surgeon’s hands be guided with spirit for the best outcome.
Please let us know how we can help here at the Program!

  3. This is tremendous news!
You know we are all thinking, praying, meditating and sending loving, healing positive thoughts and energy your way. To Joey and Julian too.
Tomorrow is the beginning of a new era in your life. A rebirth! Go forward with the grace and strength that we – family and friends – see, and have always seen, in you.
    Love, love, love.
    Fiona
